Conference site and city

The conference will be held at the Helsinki School of Economics in the city centre of Helsinki. For detailed map, see conference site.

Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is a lively city with more than one million people living in the metropolitan area. Helsinki was founded in 1550 and has been the Capital since 1812.

The city is located right on the beautiful Gulf of Finland, which creates a wonderful seaside atmosphere throughout the downtown area. Helsinki is a city that is easy to get around. It is safe for visitors and has excellent services and modern facilities. All major shops are conveniently located in the downtown area and there is a wide selection of restaurants for your culinary delight.

Currency

The currency in Finland is the euro (EUR).  Most Finnish services accept major credit cards, American Express, Diners Club, Visa, MasterCard and Eurocard.

Bank and exchange

Facilities for cashing traveller’s cheques in Finland are available at banks (opening hours 9.30-16.00), exchange agencies and at most hotels.  Banks are closed on Saturdays and Sundays except for banks at the  Helsinki International Airport.  Foreign Exchange agencies for example “Forex” in the city centre of Helsinki are open on weekdays.

Electricity

The electricity supply in Finland is 230 volts (50 Hz) and wall outlets are to the Northern European Standard (CEE 7/4) with two round contacts plus two ground contacts. The standard two-pin Euro plug (CEE 7/16) can also be connected to these outlets. Most hotels provide 110-volt outlets for shavers.

Climate and clothing

The time in Finland is 1 hour ahead of Central European Time (CET).

Excursions and tours

Sightseeing tour for the Accompanying persons on 1 June, 2006, at 10.00-12.00 A special sightseeing tour of Helsinki will be arranged for the accompanying persons, if a minimum number of 15 persons will register to the tour in advance. The tour is included in the accompanying persons fee. The tour will give an overall impression of Helsinki and will include all highlights of the sights. For instance you will visit the famous Temppeliaukio church, which is carved out of solid rock

Pre- and Post-Conference tours If you are interested in travelling in Finland or to the neighbouring countries before or after the conference, kindly contact Congreszon for more information as early as possible. There are good daily boat and flight connections from Helsinki to Tallinn in Estonia and to Stockholm in Sweden as well as train and flight connections to St. Petersburg and Moscow in Russia.
